Finally sketching dynamically...

So this semester is going well.  Somewhat easier than Perspective since I don't have to measure everything out!  Here are some highlights of the last few weeks.

Weekend Thumbs

Finished homework AND spent about four hours coming up with a page of thumbnail paintings for my personal use.  These are the best of that work.

When my ship comes in...

Feels good to paint again.  Spent the evening making custom brushes (thanks, Alex Ruiz!) and about two hours painting this.  Looking forward to doing some more in the next week before class starts.

Also needed to take a break from reading. I've downed 9 books in the last 28 days.  I think that's medal-worthy or something.

Laughing matter.

Some dynamic sketching before the weekend.  My first on my new toned paper.

Workshop work

So I've finished my Intro to Perspective class and have nothing but praise for my instructor, Derek Kosol.  He took a very dry and technical subject and enhanced it with great tips and teachings on design, composition and story, story, story.  I have more gratitude for what I learned in that class than I think he will ever know.  A fantastic start to my CGMA education.

In my intermission I've taken a pair of their workshops to keep up my arting.  I'm so excited for Dynamic Sketching I next term that one of my workshops is Dynamic Sketching with Peter Han.  I'm really pleased with the quick return on my investment in my art education.  Below are a pair of sketches that I started from life at the OKC Zoo and finished this week using the techniques I've just learned (which will only be improved after taking the full class).  Enjoy!

Finished with the first class

So my 3 point scene isn't as good as my 2 point in my opinion, but I swore to post it.  Looking forward to the break now that my technical class is over.  Going to work on some personal pieces and try a couple of the workshops that CGMA offers.

Looking forward to Dynamic Sketching I starting up in April.  I also have some sketchbook drawings that may get scanned in and posted.  Our zoo trip last week gave me a few good pages worth.

Targaryans would be proud

My finalized 2pt piece.  Doing a lot of line drawing for this term and the next two (Dynamic Sketching coming up, really excited), but at some point in the future I'd like to take several of these drawings and paint them up.  Coming up with a lot of material lately.  Which is the positive of actually doing a class instead of my previous attempts to self-teach.  Having homework due makes me get it done.

Enjoy this on your way into spring.  Pretty stoked for that too.

Since a few people didn't know, I'll mention you can enlarge any of the images on my blog simply by clicking on them.  This one deserves it for sure.  Lots of little details and even a handful of easter eggs.
